A stealth awning is a camper van and van awning where only a slim rail stays on the roof. A traditional cassette awning, by contrast, sits in a case on the side of the van all year.

What is a stealth awning?

A stealth awning is a camper van awning where only a slim rail stays on the roof, while the sail, the straps and the poles lie inside the van. Stealth means the van does not give itself away: there is no case on the side telling passers-by that there is a camper inside.

That helps when you park in town or sleep somewhere other than a campsite. There the van is better off not looking like a camper. NordicStealth fits large vans from L2 and up that have the factory's own roof anchors. The rail bolts straight onto them.

Why choose a stealth awning?

A fixed cassette awning typically weighs around 30 kg and sits on the side of the van at all times, even when rolled in. With a stealth awning, only the rail stays on the roof. The rest lies in a bag inside the van.

In return, the shade is large when the sail is out: 14.5 m², where a cassette awning typically gives 7 to 9.5 m².

How it works

How the NordicStealth awning works

The rail is bolted to the van's factory anchors in the roof, and no new holes are drilled. It is fitted once and stays on. When you want shade, you pull the edge of the sail into the rail's channel from one end with the pulley strap, a bit like a zip.

The sail is marine grade acrylic with UPF 50+ against the sun, and it gives 14.5 m² of shade. One person can put it up without tools. Afterwards everything packs back into the bag, and the van looks like an ordinary van again.
