What is a stealth awning?
A stealth awning is a camper van awning you cannot spot when it is packed away. On a NordicStealth, only a slim aluminium rail follows the roof line, while sail, straps and poles sit inside the van. A cassette awning, by contrast, sits in a case on the side of the van all year. The rail does not look like an awning, so the van still looks like a van when it is parked in town.
Which vans does it fit?
The Ford Transit, Mercedes Sprinter, VW Crafter and MAN TGE do not have those anchors and need a mounting kit, which comes in the box at no extra cost.
Do you have to drill into the van?
No. The rail is bolted to the van's own factory anchors on the roof, and no new holes are drilled. It is fitted once and stays on.
How long does setup take?
About 10 minutes once the rail is mounted. That is longer than a cassette awning, and it is better you know that now. You fit the rail once and leave it on. Every time you want shade, you pull the sail through the rail with the pulley strap, raise the two support poles and set six ground anchors. You can do it on your own.
Where is the sail stored?
In the bag. That is where you pack the sail, the support poles, the straps and the ground anchors, and the bag can go under the bed, in the rear garage or on the floor along the cabinets. Only the slim rail stays on the roof.
When is it available?
March 2027. You can order today and choose whether you pay a deposit now and the rest when it ships, or the full amount at the time of order.
What is the price?
The price is on the product page, including VAT, and delivery within the EU is included. It covers the whole system: rail, sail, poles, ground anchors, straps, pulley strap, brackets and bag. There are no add-ons.
How does it handle wind?
The system has not been wind tested, so we cannot say how much wind it can take.
What about rain?
Take it down in steady rain, because the water pools in the sail and loads the poles and anchors.
Does the rail make noise while driving?
It is not silent, but it makes less noise than a cassette awning from Thule or Fiamma. Our rail is 30 × 30 mm. The case on a Fiamma F80s is 153 mm deep and 113 mm tall. There is much less for the wind to catch. If you drive a lot on the motorway, it adds up on fuel too.
Do the ground anchors work on any surface?
The ground anchors have to screw into soft ground, for example a lawn. On asphalt, gravel, stone, loose sand or frozen ground they will not hold. There is no other kind of anchoring in the box, and we do not have a solution for hard surfaces today.
What about the Mercedes Sprinter, Ford Transit or VW T5/T6?
The Mercedes Sprinter and Ford Transit have no factory anchors on the roof and need a mounting kit. We put it in the box at no extra cost when you choose the van in the order. If you only want the kit, we sell it on its own for DKK 500 plus shipping. The VW T5 and T6 (VW Transporter) are too small for the sail, including the long-wheelbase versions.
I already have a keder rail. Can I buy the sail on its own?
Not today, and we do not yet know whether we will. The sail's thick edge, the keder, is 7.5 mm across, if you want to hold it up against your own rail. Write to us if the sail on its own is what you want, so we know how many are asking.
How do I reach the rail?
When you put the sail up, you stand on an ordinary, stable step stool and feed the first 10 to 15 cm of the sail's thick edge into the rail. You pull the rest through from the ground with the pulley strap. Never use a ladder for the sail, and never stand on the roof. The rail you fit once, from a stable step ladder and with a helper.
Is NordicStealth right for me?
If you're only out two or three times a year, a cheaper awning is completely fair. NordicStealth is for you if you use your van a lot, care about how it looks, and want serious shade without a box on the side of the van.
Do you ship outside the EU?
Delivery to Denmark and the rest of the EU is included in the price. If you live outside the EU, for example in Norway, Switzerland or the UK, write to us before you order. Then we work out the shipping with you.
