I built a stealth awning system because I could not find an awning on the market that was high quality, ready to install directly onto my roof, and kept the clean look of the van intact. So I made my own. Only a slim rail system stays on the roof, and everything else lives in one bag until you stop. I'm a stainless steel smith, so I chose every material the way I would for my own van: marine-grade dyed acrylic fabric, PU-coated and UPF 50+, powder-coated aluminium and stainless steel. On most large vans the Profile Rail System goes on the van's own roof anchors, so it is easy to put on. Then I developed and tested it for more than a year with a Danish campervan dealership that has been in the trade for 35 years, part by part.

Questions
What people ask before they buy.
Is NordicStealth right for me?
If you're only out two or three times a year, a cheaper awning is completely fair. NordicStealth is for you if you use your van a lot, care about how it looks, and want serious shade without a case on the side of the van.
How does it go on the van?
The Profile Rail System goes on the van's own factory roof anchors, or with the mounting kit from the bag into the van's own fixing points under the roof plugs. You fit it once and leave it on. The fit check shows exactly how it goes on your van.
How does it handle wind?
In my own tests it has stood up in 15 m/s of wind, held by the six ground anchors and six storm straps that come in the bag.
What about rain?
The sail is water-repellent marine-grade fabric, made to stay out on wet days. In steady rain, take it down, because water pools in the sail and loads the poles and anchors.
How long does setup take?
About 10 minutes once the Profile Rail System is mounted. That is longer than a Thule/Fiamma awning, and it is better you know that now. You fit the rail system once and leave it on. Every time you want shade, you pull the sail through the rail system with the pulley strap, raise the two support poles and set six ground anchors. You can do it on your own.
Do the ground anchors work on any surface?
The ground anchors have to screw into soft ground, for example a lawn. On asphalt, gravel, stone, loose sand or frozen ground they will not hold. There is no other kind of anchoring in the bag, and we do not have a solution for hard surfaces today.
Does the rail system make noise while driving?
It is not silent, but it makes less noise than a Thule/Fiamma awning. Our rail system is 30 × 30 mm. The case on a Fiamma F80s is 153 mm deep and 113 mm tall. There is much less for the wind to catch. If you drive a lot on the motorway, it adds up on fuel too.
How do I reach the rail system?
When you put the sail up, you stand on an ordinary, stable step stool and feed the first 10 to 15 cm of the sail's thick edge into the rail system. You pull the rest through from the ground with the pulley strap. Never use a ladder for the sail, and never stand on the roof. The rail system you fit once, from a stable step ladder and with a helper.
Do you ship outside the EU?
Yes. Delivery to Denmark, the rest of the EU, the UK, Norway, Switzerland and the USA is included in the price. For the UK, Norway, Switzerland and the USA, import duty and VAT are included too, so there is nothing to pay on delivery.
I already have a keder rail. Can I buy the sail on its own?
Not today, and we do not yet know whether we will. The sail's thick edge, the keder, is 7.5 mm across, if you want to hold it up against your own rail. Write to us if the sail on its own is what you want, so we know how many are asking.
